"The moments when you have really lived are the moments
when you have done things in the spirit of love."

-- Henry Drummond

Counsellor's Diary

By Roger King

The trauma of the last 3 weeks has shocked the world. My response is to open my doors for souls to talk about their grief and their individual reactions. Remember to send love with your money, keep opening your heart and mind to any grief, anger or fear you may experience so that your compassion increases in time and consciousness.

Here is a story (possibly apocryphal, but powerful nevertheless) about a man who acted in the spirit of love and what he consequently learned.

The story comes from Zig Ziglar's book, SEE YOU AT THE TOP (Pelican Publishing Co., 1982). He tells about an old man who stood on a Virginia riverbank many years ago. He was waiting to cross the river and, since it was bitterly cold and there were no bridges, he would have to "catch a ride" to the other side. After a lengthy wait, he spotted a group of horsemen approaching. He let the first one pass, then the second, third, fourth and fifth. One rider remained. As he drew abreast, the old man looked him in the eye and said, "Sir, would you give me a ride across the river?"

The rider immediately replied, "Certainly."

Once across the river, the old man slid to the ground. "Sir," the rider said before leaving. "I could not help but notice that you permitted all the other men to pass without asking for a ride. Then, when I drew abreast, you immediately asked me to carry you across. I am curious as to why you didn't ask them and you did ask me."

The old man quietly responded, "I looked into their eyes and could see no love and knew in my own heart it would be useless to ask for a ride. But when I looked into your eyes, I saw compassion, love and the willingness to help. I knew you would be glad to give me a ride across the river."

The rider was touched. "I'm grateful for what you are saying," he said. "I appreciate it very much." With that, Thomas Jefferson turned and rode off to the White House.

Ziglar reminds us that our eyes are the windows of our souls. Then he asks a pointed question: "If you had been the last rider, would the old man have asked you for a ride?"

Intuition Alert
by Karin Peterson-Sitrin

On August 28, 2003 I needed to go to the Poughkeepsie, NY train station as I was on my way to Toronto, Canada. I had a mission to deliver my computer to a friend who lives there.
Since I had to store my computer in a rather large box, I decided to call a limousine service to give me a ride to the train station. Everything seemed to be flowing quite smoothly that morning. I was ready in plenty of time, the limousine arrived in a timely manner, and I was excited about this adventure. Then it happened....

The Last Day
by Steve Goodier

Her husband came back to life! Well, almost...  He raced to the hospital and, to the astonishment of his grieving family, strode into the waiting room! Her Linda clung to him and laughed and cried, all at the same time. After a while she said, "Jose, if you ever die on me again, I'll kill you myself...."

The Golden Box

Some time ago, a man punished his 5-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became even more upset when the child pasted the gold paper so as to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy."

The father was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box was empty. He spoke to her in a harsh manner, "Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?"

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was full." The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger.

An accident took the life of the child only a short time later and it is told that the father kept that gold box by his bed for all the years of his life. And whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems, he would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us as human beings have been given a golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends and God. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

Friends are like angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. Think positive and act. This is nice - finding something positive out of every negative, which we don't always manage to do. I am thankful.........

  • For the husband who snores all night because he is at home asleep with me and not with someone else.
  • For the children who complain about doing dishes, because that means they are at home and not on the streets.
  • For the taxes that I pay, because it means that I am employed.
  • For the mess to clean after a party, because it means, that I have been surrounded by friends.
  • For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means, I have enough to eat.
  • For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine.
  • For a floor that needs mopping, and windows that need cleaning, because it means I have a home.
  • For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom of speech.
  • For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that have been blessed with transportation.
  • For the noise I have to bear from my neighbors, because it means that I can hear.
  • For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear.
  • For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of working hard.
  • For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive.

AND FINALLY.............

For too much e-mail, because it means I have friends who are thinking of me. Send this to someone you care about.

May you all be willing to learn to love.

I release with love, all criticism of those who have hurt me, including myself.

Remember affirmations work on you telling the subconscious mind with an emotional charge what you would like to experience in reality. Remember your subconscious mind cannot take a joke.

Humour

The Voice of God Speaks

There was a Scottish tradesman, a painter called Jack, who was very interested in making a pound where he could. So he often would thin down his paint to make it go a wee bit further. As it happened, he got away with this for some time.

Eventually the Presbyterian Church decided to do a big restoration job on one of their biggest churches. Jack put in a painting bid and because his price was so competitive, he got the job.

Well, Jack was up on the scaffolding, painting away, the job nearly done, when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of thunder. The sky opened and the rain poured down, washing the thin paint from all over the church and knocking Jack fair off the scaffold to land on the lawn.

Now, Jack was no fool. He knew this was a judgement from the Almighty, so he fell on his knees and cried, “Oh, God! Forgive me! What should I do?”

And from the thunder, a mighty Voice spoke, “Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!”

Rules of the Air

This appeared in the June issue of Australian Aviation Magazine...

 1. Every takeoff is optional. Every landing is mandatory.

2. If you push the stick forward, the houses get bigger. If you pull the stick back, they get smaller. That is, unless you keep pulling the stick all the way back, then they get bigger again.

3. Flying isn’t dangerous. Crashing is what’s dangerous.

4. The ONLY time you have too much fuel is when you’re on fire.

5. The propeller is just a big fan in front of the plane used to keep the pilot cool. When it stops, you can actually watch the pilot start sweating.

6. A ‘good’ landing is one from which you can walk away. A ‘great’ landing is one after which they can use the plane again.

7. Stay out of clouds. The silver lining everyone keeps talking about might be another airplane going in the opposite direction. Reliable sources also report that mountains have been known to hide out in clouds.

9. Always try to keep the number of landings you make equal to the number of take offs you’ve made.

10. In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.
