Soul Talk News, Special Issue

"There are two eternities that can really break you down - yesterday and tomorrow. One is gone and the other doesn't exist yet...  so live today."

                  -- Author unknown

Dear Soul Talk News Friends,

From working as a counsellor for many years, people have asked me to write a book called:

“Best Loved Affirmations.”

So I am asking you (!) and everyone who receives this SOUL TALK NEWS to choose to send me one or more affirmations that have changed your life for the better, with a short Why and/or How?

If you'd like your name at the end of your entry (after why and how,) please include your name and I will include your affirmation(s) with your name in the book.

If the affirmation comes from a well-known author, please give credit to that person. Please pass this onto anyone you know. Your affirmation may help someone who knows nothing about how affirmations can empower our lives.

Email me your affirmation at roger@soultalkstories.com -- or write to Roger at 3 Waterton Close Walton Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF2 6JT, UK.

A SOUL STORY

from a ‘Crackpot’ friend Christian Godfrey

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the  feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge and all of the others, including Love.

One day, it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all repaired their boats and left.  Love was the only one who stayed.

Love wanted to persevere until the last possible moment. When the island was almost sinking, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a great boat. Love said: "Richness, can you take me with you?"

Richness answered:   "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity, who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel:

"Vanity, please help me!"'

"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by, so Love asked for help:

"Sadness, let me go with you."

"Oh...Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"

Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her! Suddenly, there was a voice:

"Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder.Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder her name. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way.

Love, realizing how much he owed the elder asked Knowledge, another elder: "Who helped me?"

"It was Time," Knowledge answered.

"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered:  "Because only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is."

ROGER'S NEW BOOK

Making Love With Passionate Thoughts is now selling well over the website and will be reviewed in a new MIND BODY SPIRIT magazine.

Here's a sample.

Meditation 14. Inner Power creates energy.

The more I seek other people's approval all the time, the more I feel dominated and leak my true power of being powerfully loving, loveable and loved.

As we grow we will see old beliefs more clearly for what they truly are. They have served a purpose, yet some old beliefs now impede our growth. Our seeds of positive thoughts, repeatedly said with passion, give us an inner energy to move rocks of fear and pull out weeds of self-hatred and criticism. Remember, your subconscious mind cannot take a joke. It has recorded everything said and done to you and then repeated by you. Giving it loving thoughts will dissolve the pain and limiting beliefs. The more you send those positive thoughts with passion, the deeper the healing of old diseased thoughts that are hurting you.

Beliefs are thoughts and feelings that have become ingrained in our subconscious mind as "true". We learned these thought and feeling patterns from parents, teachers, lovers and misguided friends, and many people who were doing the best with what they knew. Learning to love yourself will allow you to let go of this erroneous need for other people's approval. Know for yourself:

I cannot afford the luxury of others' negative thoughts about me; their negative thoughts are not me. I release them with love. And so it is.

How Are You at Making Decisions?

Years ago, a city family bought a cattle ranch and moved to the wide-open country. After a month, friends visited the family in their ranch house. "What did you decide to name your ranch?" they inquired.

"Well," the husband replied, "I wanted to call it the Flying W and my wife wanted to name it the Suzy Q, but one of our sons liked the Bar J and the other preferred the Lazy Y. So we compromised and call it the Flying W/Suzy Q/Bar J/Lazy Y."

"I see," said the visitor. "And where are your cattle?"

"None of them survived the branding!" said the rancher.

You, no doubt, make better decisions than that. But what do you do when you have a particularly tough decision to make? What do you do when your options are not at all clear?

When faced with a difficult decision, one man relies on what he calls the "rocking chair test." He imagines himself as an old man, nearing the end of his life. As he sits and rocks on his porch and contemplates his life, he asks himself if this decision will have any meaning to him. Will he be proud or ashamed of his decision? How will this decision have affected the course of his life?

The "rocking chair test" helps him take a long view of his options. If any decision passes the test, then he knows that it was a good choice.

What decisions are you presently struggling with? Take the "rocking chair test" today and make a better decision for tomorrow.

Dear Roger King,

This is a call to everyone concerned by the genocide in Sudan.

While UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and US Secretary of State Colin Powell  were engaging Sudan's regime diplomatically, anti-slavery activists in Washington, DC, took the movement to Stop the Genocide and Free the Slaves to the streets this week -- swarming the steps of the Sudanese Embassy and engaging in civil disobedience. Now we need YOU to initiate grassroots action in your community.  And to chronicle the work of activists like you, we've launched the Freedom Action Blog.

On June 29, American Anti-Slavery Group President Charles Jacobs joined with other members of the Sudan Campaign in marching on the embassy to demand Sudan end its genocidal campaign of rape, murder and slavery against Africans in Darfur and in South Sudan.

"Protests work -- coalitions work," Jacobs told the crowd of 200 people. "In early June we joined with Sudanese refugees and African American leaders to protest Kofi Annan's trip to Harvard to receive an honorary diploma. We told him to go to Sudan, not Harvard. Today, he's in Sudan!"

Radio show host and former NAACP board member Joe Madison and Congressional Black Caucus founder Hon. Rev. Walter Fauntroy -- arrested in 2001 for another display of civil disobedience at the Sudanese Embassy -- were both handcuffed by Secret Service agents after wrapping the entrance in police tape and refusing to unseat themselves from the building's steps.

"Enough is enough!" declared Fauntroy, shortly before being arrested. "It is our hope and expectation that the action we take today will spur people of conscience to come to this place everyday, week and month, for however long it takes until the killing stops."

This is where you come in. Get out there. Gather some friends, make some signs and hold protests in your community. Pass out this leaflet to educate people. Write a letter to you newspaper and your Congressperson. Don't feel like you are the only one out there -- you will be joining thousands of activists all around the world who are doing the same.

And when you go out there, be sure to take pictures and tell us about your experiences. We will spotlight your work here on our new weblog to encourage others to act and strengthen this grassroots movement.  Be sure to stay tuned to blog.iabolish.com to see what activists around the world are doing, and what is (and isn't) being reported on slavery around the world.

It's time to end the genocide and kick the slavemasters out of the UN.
